Filling your glass with drinkable water - including sparkling water at the temperature you prefer - from the tap of your yacht is a dream that came true a few years ago. The HP Watermakers-designed GENIUS dispenser is what made it possible - and a new version of this device will be on display for all to see at BOOT Düsseldorf (from 18 to 26 January 2025).
“Such a prestigious event called for an equally prestigious new product,” states Gianni Zucco, co-founder of HP Watermakers. “The new HP GENIUS sets new standards in terms of low weight and ease of use, but it will not be our stand’s only attraction: we will also be displaying the new HP SCA DOUBLE 440 watermaker (the top of the new range exhibited in 2024 at the Cannes Yachting Festival) and the HP KILO, compact and highly efficient watermaker ideal for smaller boats (35 to 50 feet).”
HP GENIUS, lighter and user-friendly
HP GENIUS is the complete solution for providing drinking water onboard: a water dispenser directly connected to a tank-linked water distribution system, producing purified chilled and/or sparkling water.
With HP GENIUS, bacteria-free purified water with no unpleasant chlorine taste can be obtained directly from the tap in the galley, where the device is usually installed. The ultrafiltration system removes all traces of chlorine, trapping all bacteria and large numbers of pollutants with the potential to contaminate water as it travels from the tank to the tap (metals, pesticides, hydrocarbons). The bactericidal silver ion treatment system sterilises the water at the point of exit. Lastly, a re-mineralising filter enriches the water with precious minerals, giving it a pleasant taste. The result is water that contains all the beneficial trace elements of mineral salts (which our body needs) and is sterilised, drinkable and as pure as spring water! What’s more, HP GENIUS produces water to suit all tastes - chilled, room temperature and sparkling.
Specifically, the HP GENIUS AG filter, supplied with brackets and heads for installation on bulkheads, eliminates bacteria and unwanted odours and flavours, reduces chlorine, and has a nominal filtration rating of 0.1 microns. The high-performance filtering cartridge encloses and maximises the advantages delivered by silver ions combined with an ultrafiltration stage that blocks over 99.9% of all bacteria.
HP GENIUS MINERAL, also supplied with brackets and heads for installation on bulkheads, is a re-mineralising cartridge for low-salinity water, which is the type of water produced, for example, by a reverse osmosis desalination system. The size is identical to the previous model, 225x463x443 mm (LxDxH), but it is lighter, weighing only 15 kg.
“The HP GENIUS has already been installed on hundreds of yachts of all sizes,” explains Gianni Zucco. “With the new version, we have introduced a number of important innovations that make it even easier to install and adjust. These include a highly resistant polycarbonate body in place of the metal one, making it lighter but just as strong. However, the most important innovation is the new thermostat, which guarantees faster dispensing of water at the desired temperature - a very important feature in a dispenser that is used on a daily basis. All this comes with a convenient control keypad that, in addition to the on/off functions, permits rapid control of the desired temperature and type of water; it can also be used to reset any alarms concerning the sterilisation process.”
The HP SCA DOUBLE series
After premiering at the 2024 Cannes Yachting Festival, the HP SCA DOUBLE series watermakers will also be shown at the BOOT trade show. The series includes five models capable of producing from 260 l/h to 1,200 l/h of drinking water, with complete automation guaranteed by the RP Tronic system. They offer a considerable advantage over manual watermakers because they do not require continuous adjustment of pressure in the engine room to adapt to fluctuations in salinity and water temperature. Most importantly, they perform an effective rinse at the end of the cycle with the valve fully open, making it unnecessary to wash the membranes with chemicals to remove accumulated salt.
The HP SCA DOUBLE series consists of two independent watermakers, set up in the same box, and has been designed to optimise on-board energy usage while at the same time satisfying peak demand for drinking water. During transfers, for example, or when the yacht is not being used intensively, one desalinator is enough, but when cruising with guests, both watermakers will operate to satisfy all the yacht’s needs. Additionally, should a fault unfortunately occur, there is always a second working desalination unit. Last but not least, moving the low-pressure pumps also allows for a narrower box (with width reduced from 1,100 mm to 800 mm), with no changes in height and depth (590 and 480 mm).
The “little” HP KILO, 120 l/h of drinking water with just one kWh
Having plenty of fresh water available on a medium-sized yacht (35-50 feet) is a pressing need when the yacht is used intensively. Reliability is a known issue in 12V or 24V watermakers operating for long periods of time. HP Watermakers solves the problem with HP KILO, a 220V watermaker that consumes only 1 kWh but can continuously produce 120 l/h of fresh water. Use of alternating current offers undoubted advantages: it extends the lifespan of electric motors and improves their efficiency, electricity absorption is more fluid, and installation is simpler, with smaller cable sections. Size is also relatively small, at 840x455x420 mm (LxDxH).
The “Together We Boat” strategic alliance
The German trade show will also be an opportunity to consolidate the partnership among HP Watermakers, Mase, GenSet, Besenzoni, Mapei Marine and Feit Pompe. This strategic alliance is about to become one of the most interesting players on the nautical scene. New business agreements have been signed in Europe, and the foundations have been laid for collaboration on the American market, considering the extensive experience that the various partners have in the region and the new branch in Fort Lauderdale (Florida), inaugurated during last autumn’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
