Leading innovator in marine safety equipment Ocean Signal is introducing the safeSEA S200 AIS SART (Search and Rescue Transmitter) at METSTRADE 2025.
Combining the proven reliability of the IMO compliant safeSEA S100 Radar SART with AIS (Automatic Identification System) technology, the next-generation Ocean Signal AIS SART provides increased visibility for enhanced maritime safety.
The AIS distress signals of the Ocean Signal S200 are received and displayed on an AIS-receivers installed on ships in the vicinity, SAR vessels, and aircraft, and can also be picked up by AIS-equipped vessels and shore stations over a longer range – unlike traditional radar signals.
Utilising GPS technology and real-time data exchange, the S200 can precisely transmit the vessel’s location and status, providing more accurate positioning information to improve situational awareness and coordination among rescuers. It allows vessel tracking to prevent collisions, and expedites response times to increase the likelihood of a swift and successful rescue, even in remote or less trafficked areas.
In addition to its AIS functionality, the S200 also provides users with Near-Field Communications, or NFC capabilities, which allows for use with the Ocean Signal mobile App to view self-test, programming and beacon performance metrics.
The Ocean Signal S200 is designed to help search and rescue services to quickly locate a life raft in the event of a rescue at sea. The AIS SART can either be stowed in a life raft or mounted next to emergency exits and then carried to the life raft in an emergency.
James Hewitt, Managing Director, Ocean Signal, said: “Our new GMDSS SART incorporates precise AIS technology to offer more boaters enhanced visibility and communication during emergencies. Ocean Signal is committed to leveraging the capabilities of AIS to advance maritime safety and help to save more lives at sea.”
The Ocean Signal safeSEA S100 SART is trusted by mariners worldwide for its compliance with IMO SOLAS regulations and its ability to significantly enhance search and rescue operations. With its advanced radar reflector technology, superior lithium battery life, and versatile mounting options, the S100 has been a staple for vessels requiring GMDSS compliance.
Now, with the introduction of AIS functionality, the S200 AIS SART further advances search and rescue efforts at sea.
The new AIS version retains all the features which have made the S100 a trusted companion for mariners, including its rugged design, long battery life, and versatile mounting options.
Ocean Signal will continue to manufacture the safeSEA S100 Radar SART alongside the new S200 AIS SART, providing customers with the technology options they trust to keep them compliant and safe at sea.
Communication and safety at sea specialist Ocean Signal offers an advanced range of safety gear, providing mariners with the latest technology in Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB), Personal Locator Beacons (PLB), Man Overboard (MOB) devices, Electronic Visual Distress Signalling Devices (eVDSD), and more.
