World Sailing is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2026 World Sailing Youth Emerging Nations Programme (ENP).
Member National Authorities (MNAs) are encouraged to apply on behalf of their most promising athletes.
The deadline to apply is Friday 27 March.
Since 2021, sailors from 33 nations have taken part in the World Sailing Youth ENP. In 2025 alone, the programme supported 20 sailors from 15 countries spanning Africa, South America, the Caribbean, Oceania, and Europe - a powerful reflection of sailing’s growing global reach.
Fiona Kidd, World Sailing’s Head of International Development, said, “The World Sailing Youth Emerging Nations Programme has become a powerful launchpad for the next generation of global sailing talent. We strongly encourage all eligible MNAs to seize this opportunity and put forward their most promising young sailors that are already on the appropriate high-performance pathway and are aiming to compete at the highest level in the youth category.
“The World Sailing Youth ENP is not just about one championship, it is about building confidence, raising standards, and enabling sailors to experience international competition that will help them transition to senior elite competition.”
For over 20 years, the World Sailing Youth ENP has created life-changing opportunities for sailors who would not otherwise have access to high-performance coaching or international competition.
Designed to support emerging sailing nations, the programme empowers young athletes to step confidently on to the world stage, gain invaluable experience, and build a clear pathway toward senior elite competition.
A six-month high-performance journey
Selected athletes will take part in a comprehensive six-month development programme that includes:
• Expert coaching delivered through structured online training sessions to support the athletes and their coaches, focusing on specific topics designed to improve performance at the Youth Sailing World Championships. Sessions are delivered in English.
• A focused four-day in-person training camp immediately prior to competition with expert World Sailing-approved coaches that provide technical guidance, race preparation, and performance insights to ensure athletes are confident and competition-ready.
• Entry to the 2026 Youth Sailing World Championships in Vilamoura, Portugal taking place from 11–19 December 2026.
