World Sailing is inviting Member National Authorities (MNAs), venues, organisations and cities to submit bids for the 2030-2031 World Sailing Championships, the primary Olympic qualification event for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.

The 2030-2031 edition, the eighth edition of sailing’s premier global regatta, will continue to offer the split venue model, which will be used for the first time in 2027 when Fortaleza in Brazil and Gdynia in Poland share hosting duties.

This approach allows the championships to be hosted across two distinct sessions or locations, opening the door for a wider range of venues to showcase the pinnacle of Olympic-class sailing alongside Para Inclusive Sailing events and invited events.

As the primary qualification event for the Olympic Games, the World Sailing Championships represent the largest gathering of Olympic-class sailors and Para Inclusive sailors in the world. By offering a split hosting opportunity, World Sailing aims to increase the accessibility of the event, reduce the logistical demands on a single host, and provide more nations with the platform to grow the sport locally.

David Graham, World Sailing CEO, said: "The World Sailing Championships is our flagship event, a spectacular showcase of talent that captures the world’s attention. By inviting bids for the 2030-2031 cycle now, we are providing potential hosts with the long-term planning horizon necessary to deliver a world-class experience for athletes, fans, and partners.

"Our move toward a more flexible hosting model has already shown great promise in diversifying our host cities. We are committed to taking the championships to new territories and continuing to build on an incredible legacy of events and support the dreams of sailors from all over the world to compete at the Olympic Games."

The regattas will be scheduled between July 2030 and February 2031, or between July and September 2031.

A platform for sporting excellence and sustainability

Hosting the World Sailing Championships provides a unique opportunity for cities or regions to promote themselves to a global audience while aligning with World Sailing’s sustainability and gender equity goals. The 2030-2031 editions will be a critical milestone in the lead-up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games, serving as a primary qualification event for athletes seeking to secure their place on the starting line.

Bid process and deadlines

World Sailing welcomes hosts who can demonstrate a commitment to sporting excellence, state-of-the-art facilities, and a vision for a sustainable event legacy.

World Sailing is inviting individual bids to host either of the two sessions. World Sailing may also consider bids for the whole programme.
