boot Düsseldorf 2023: sailing, heart and soul of water sports

09/11/2022 - 18:28 in Service by Boot Dusseldorf

The history of sailing goes way back into the history of mankind: on Egyptian ships more than 5,000 years ago, sails first blew and boats floated up and down the Nile. To this day, sailing has lost none of its appeal and will also play a very special role at the upcoming boot from 21 to 29 January 2023. More than 100 manufacturers, sailing associations and regatta organisers will fill the sailing Halls 15 and 16 of the fair and thus show the "crème de la crème" of the industry. boot director Petros Michelidakis, himself a passionate sailor, is very pleased about this and explains: "There is almost every brand on board. By that I mean both the big players in the industry and young, up-and-coming startups. With them and our initiatives such as Start Sailing or the platforms in the Sailing Center with the sailing and the class associations as well as the famous partner regattas, boot Düsseldorf shows the largest presentation of sailing sport under trade fair roofs worldwide. The fair is an ideal reflection of the market. The importance of sailing continues unabated and is increasingly in demand again, especially in today's world in view of sustainable propulsion."

According to Michelidakis, boot has undertaken numerous measures to intensively promote and introduce young people to the sport of sailing. Last but not least, over the 50 years, the boot Sailing School in the regatta basin at the fair has contributed to numerous children taking up sailing and now becoming passionate sailors.

A particularly magical attraction at boot is traditionally the stage of the Sailing Center. Although preparations are still in full swing here, two exciting themes have already been decided. The charismatic single-handed sailor and Vendée Globe participant Pip Hare sailed her way into the hearts of the fans in 2021 and will report on her further plans for 2024 at boot. Another highlight will be the live broadcast from Cape Verde to the Sailing Center in Hall 15, where Robert Stanjek will be in front of the camera directly after the first leg of The Ocean Race from Alicante to the Cape Verde Islands. The 2014 Olympic sixth place finisher has since switched to offshore sailing and is competing in a world race for the first time in The Ocean Race. Together with Jens Kuphal, Philip Kasüske, Annie Lush and Benjamin Dutreux, they are sailing as a crew on Dutreux's boat in the race on the world's oceans.

A look around the exhibition halls makes the sailing fan’s heart beat faster. Amel, Arcona Najad, Bavaria, Bénéteau, Contest, Dufour, Elan, Faurby, Grand Soleil, Hallberg Rassy, Sirena, Solaris, Sunbeam, Wauquiez, among others, are on board with their fleets and a wide range of products. Michelidakis: "Bénéteau, for example, will bring a whole armada of sailing boats to boot - and present current sustainable concepts. For the first time, Wally will also be represented with a sailboat and the new Nano is sure to attract quite a bit of attention." In the sailing halls, the very special flair that unites the sportsmen and women will once again be evident. Everyone is welcome here. Whether dinghies or the large yachts from Nautor's Swan, CNB and Oyster, monohulls or multihulls from Bali, Excess, Lagoon and Quorning, in Halls 15 and 16 the dream of sailing will come true.

But it is not only the purchase of a new boat or chartering (in Hall 13, for example, at Dreamyacht Charter, North Sardinia Sailing or Kiriacoulis Mediterannian Cruises) that is the focus for sailing fans when visiting boot. For many sailors today, good technical equipment is simply part of a successful sailing trip. And safety on board is also playing an increasingly important role. This is where Halls 10 and 11 at boot 2023 come into play. When visiting the stand of the innovative sailcloth manufacturer Dimension Polyant, the rescue equipment suppliers Restube and Secumar or Dometic with its extensive mobile equipment, sailing fans are sure to find the right equipment.
