Structurelab Architects won the first prize at the Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marina Architecture Competition with their thoughtfully designed Lotus Marina concept. The design stands out with its harmonious combination of sustainability, modularity, and innovative aesthetics, seamlessly integrating into the landscape of the Calanque of Sormiou.
Structure
The structure of Lotus Marina showcases intelligent architectural solutions. Each module is supported by two curved wooden beams that provide stability and create an open space. A fixed sunshade protects visitors from intense sunlight, ensuring comfort during their stay. The rooms offer a maximum view of the sea through their sliding windows with minimal window frames.
Modularity
The marina's modular design is a key feature of its concept. Each module offers multiple possibilities for use, functioning as hotel rooms, restaurant or commercial spaces, or open outdoor areas. This versatility allows flexible adaptation to various needs. These arrangements highlight the marina's adaptability, making it a versatile solution for diverse usage scenarios. The modular design allows the marina to adapt to the desired size of the users.
Sustainability
Sustainability is at the heart of the project. The floating structure utilizes recycled materials, including 100% recycled plastic and wood specifically developed for marine environments. Photovoltaic panels and an innovative water management system that collects and uses rainwater significantly reduce energy and water consumption. Eco-friendly anchoring methods are also employed to enhance the protection of marine ecosystems and the seabed
The marina offers an unforgettable visitor experience. An open restaurant with panoramic sea views invites guests to relax, while exclusive accommodations provide a serene retreat with stunning vistas. The central area of the marina serves as a social hub, featuring an event space and a bar that foster community and relaxation.
With its thoughtful design, a diameter of 27 meters, and an expandable area of 400 m², Lotus Marina sets a new benchmark for sustainable architecture, demonstrating how modern needs and environmental consciousness can coexist.
