Palumbo changes course: Palumbo Upfit goes beyond refit

A new identity for an approach that looks beyond traditional refit, placing maintenance, evolution and continuity at the centre of the relationship with every yacht.

On 3 September 2026, Palumbo Superyachts Refit officially becomes Palumbo Upfit. The new name reflects an evolution that has developed over time: no longer focusing only on refit projects carried out during a specific yard period, but taking a broader view of the vessel's operational life through maintenance, repair, upgrades, conversions and long-term technical support.

Refit remains a fundamental part of the business. But, according to Palumbo, it no longer describes the full scope of what the Group has become.

From individual projects to continuity

Palumbo Upfit brings together repair, maintenance, conversion, technical upgrades, engineering, structural works and interiors within a single approach based on continuity, technical understanding and long-term responsibility.

Every intervention becomes part of the vessel's wider story rather than an isolated project.

“We did not need to change what we are. We needed to name what we have become,” says Antonio Palumbo. “Refit remains fundamental, but Upfit reflects a broader responsibility: understanding the vessel, connecting interventions and carrying knowledge, experience and commitment forward over time.”

A manifesto for evolution

The new identity is accompanied by a clear manifesto:

For decades, we have worked with vessels through every stage of their evolution.

The thinking behind Palumbo Upfit is straightforward: traditionally, refit has meant bringing a vessel back to where it was. Upfit takes a broader view, looking not only at what a vessel is today, but at what it will need next.

Across Palumbo's seven Mediterranean shipyards, experience, specialist knowledge and industrial capability are brought together around every vessel. Expertise is shared between locations and solutions can follow the yacht from one facility to another, making each intervention part of a longer journey.

For Palumbo, looking after a vessel therefore means more than returning it to perfect condition. It means protecting its continuity, supporting its evolution and keeping it ready for what lies ahead.

Seven shipyards. One continuity of care.

Palumbo's roots date back to 1967, when the company began in Naples as a repair centre for commercial vessels. Almost six decades later, the Group has developed a Mediterranean network of seven shipyards across four countries: France, Italy, Malta and Croatia.

The network covers more than 44.5 hectares of facilities, 5.6 km of berthing, 10 dry docks up to 268 metres, seven floating docks with lifting capacity up to 40,000 tonnes, four travel lifts and one syncro lift with capacity up to 3,300 tonnes.

This scale allows Palumbo Upfit to plan a yacht's evolution in stages, selecting the facility best suited to each phase of the vessel's requirements and cruising programme.

Painting, engineering, technical upgrades, interiors, structural modifications and maintenance can be coordinated over the years, while knowledge and responsibility remain within the Group.

A preventive approach

The Upfit philosophy also looks ahead. The objective is to identify future technical requirements, plan preventive measures and help owners and crews keep their yachts operating at their best.

This approach can apply to very different situations: preparing a yacht for a new chapter, changing its use, preparing it for a future sale, or simply using a winter stop for targeted refinements.

The evolution of the vessel becomes a considered sequence of interventions rather than a series of disconnected projects.

More than a mark

The new logo is also rooted in this philosophy.

Its symbol incorporates the Plimsoll mark, introduced in the nineteenth century to indicate the maximum depth to which a vessel could safely be loaded and made compulsory under the Merchant Shipping Act of 1876.

For Palumbo Upfit, the reference is particularly meaningful. The Group's roots lie in the commercial maritime industry, in practical knowledge of vessels and in the responsibility of returning them safely to sea.

Within the symbol, UP emerges naturally from the geometry. A line travels through the form, suggesting continuity, direction and movement, while the overall structure carries an echo of the Greek letter Φ, with its associations of balance, proportion and permanence.

The result is a symbol with several layers of meaning, all connected to the same idea: strength built on knowledge, continuity shaped by evolution and a responsibility that has always been part of Palumbo's world.

Strength in its roots. Continuity in its line. Evolution in its form.

Continuity built over time

Palumbo remains a family-led Group, with the fourth generation involved in the business. Direct involvement with its yards, people and decisions keeps relationships close and responsibility personal.

It is this proximity, combined with almost six decades of accumulated knowledge, that provides the foundation for the new identity.

The name is new. The commitment is not.

Palumbo Upfit. Continuity Through Evolution.
