Romital on turning design vision into sustainable yacht interiors
Alexandru Mico, CEO of Romital, discusses the company’s role in the Water Revolution Foundation stand at the Monaco Yacht Show 2026, and why sustainability must enter the design process from the very beginning.
He walks PressMare through the company’s contribution, the value of collaboration across the supply chain, and what he hopes the project will change in the way yacht interiors are designed and sourced.
PressMare: What did you contribute to the Water Revolution Foundation stand at the Monaco Yacht Show and what expertise did you bring to its creation?
Alexandru Mico: Romital contributed its expertise in high-quality upholstered furniture and bespoke interior solutions for the yachting industry. With decades of experience, we specialise in transforming design concepts into practical high-quality products, combining craftsmanship, technical expertise and attention to detail. Our contribution reflects our ability to develop upholstered elements that meet the aesthetic, functional and technical requirements of high-end yacht interiors.
In addition, we were responsible for coordinating all the project partners and managing the logistics, helping ensure smooth collaboration and effective communication among everyone involved.
PM: How did working with the Water Revolution Foundation and Smart Interiors Horizon influence your contribution? Can you share a concrete example of something made possible through this collaboration?
AM: Working with Smart Interiors Horizon and the other partners created an opportunity to bring together different areas of expertise, from design and material selection to technical development and manufacturing. This collaborative approach allowed us to connect the creative vision with the practical requirements of bringing the project to life.
I see this first meeting as an important starting point for understanding how we can work together, identifying the right approach and exploring opportunities for collaboration to help make the interiors yachting industry more environmentally conscious and sustainable.
I believe that, if developed and structured in the right way, a material bank could be a very valuable tool during the product development phase, helping designers and manufacturers identify suitable materials and make more informed, responsible choices from the very beginning of a project.
PM: What do you hope this project will encourage the yachting industry to do differently when designing and sourcing interiors?
AM: We hope this project will encourage the yachting industry to consider sustainability from the earliest stages of interior design and product development. Material selection, durability, responsible sourcing and the possibility of repairing or replacing individual components should all be part of the conversation. I trust that collaboration between designers, manufacturers and suppliers is essential to creating interiors that embed a more responsible use of resources into luxury and quality.
PM: Which aspect of your contribution best illustrates how your expertise can help translate a designer’s vision into a practical interior solution?
AM: Our strength lies in bridging the gap between design and manufacturing. We work closely with designers to understand their vision and translate it into upholstered products that meet the required aesthetic, comfort and technical standards. Our experience allows us to identify practical solutions, select suitable materials and refine construction details while respecting the original design intent.
For Romital, the goal is always to ensure that creativity and craftsmanship work together to deliver a finished product that performs as well as it looks.
