Four races were completed today by the fleet Nacra 17 fleet at the European Championships, currently underway at the Sferracavallo Sailing Club in Palermo and set to conclude on Sunday. After yesterday’s lull, which prevented any races from being held, today’s events saw all 18 crews taking to the water at 10 a.m. With these four races – bringing the total to six after two races on Wednesday – the competition showcased the technical skills and team synergy among the various competitors.
The provisional rankings saw significant shifts, though the Dutch team of Willemijn Offerman and Scipio Houtman maintained their lead. Thanks to their impressive performance today, Italian sailors Gianluigi Ugolini and Maria Giubilei moved up to second place, followed closely by Belgian duo Kwinten and Lieselotte Borghijs in third. The Austrian team, with Laura Farese and Matthäus Zöchling, currently holds fourth place.
The event, organized by the Sferracavallo Sailing Club in collaboration with the Nacra 17 class association and the Department of Tourism and Sport of the City of Palermo, features 18 boats and 36 athletes from across the globe. Competing teams hail from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, and the United States.
Tomorrow’s first warning signal is scheduled for 10 a.m., with four races planned.
