After a weekend full of emotions, a week fully dedicated to the Barcolana kicks off in a very summery Trieste. Starting today, the city will host a network of events that involve local businesses in their calendar and that will bring to life spaces for exhibitions and meetings. As far as regattas are concerned, the Barcolana - Trofeo Maxi Tivoli Portopiccolo formally kicked off this afternoon in Portopiccolo with the skippers meeting and the opening ceremony. It will be held as a prelude to the Barcolana, involving about fifteen boats that will battle it out in the Gulf and will have their operational base in Portopiccolo until Wednesday. They will be competing in four races, two each day, over a windward-leeward course or over a triangle course; on Thursday they will race along the Rive, over the same course and length as the Barcolana 55 presented by Generali. The event is co-organised by Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano (Sailing Club of Barcola and Grignano) and Yacht Club Portopiccolo and is in its second edition.
Tomorrow, Tuesday 3 October, Portopiccolo will host the skippers briefing at 11:00 a.m. and the starting signal at 1:00 p.m.
THE FINAL PROGRAMME OF THE BARCOLANA SEA SUMMIT IS HERE - The first major event is the Barcolana Sea Summit, kicking off on Wednesday morning. It will involve over 700 students from FVG secondary schools, as well as young researchers who over the past few weeks have prepared an installation to raise awareness of sustainability which will be on display at the Trieste Convention Center from Wednesday. This edition's main themes will be the preservation and management of the Mediterranean (with a lecture by Jeremy Rifkin); CEI's great work in the administration of the upper Adriatic and in emergency management; the management of investments by Invitalia (CEO Bernardo Mattarella will be present on Wednesday); technology for sustainability with a focus on the role of satellites in environmental surveillance; investments in hydrogen production (Hera Group President will be present on Thursday); and the work of the Carabinieri Forestry Corps. Friday's speeches will centre around land reclamation and dredging with a focus on Monfalcone's case history.
