The 2022 edition of the Melges World League got underway today on the Marina di Scarlino race course where three races were held; immediately important data and indications emerged on the names of the expected protagonists of this long season of regattas signed by Melges Europe.
A day characterized by initially very shifty wind which, after a short wait, stretched from 150 degrees of direction offering a not simple tactical decisions that saw the fleet always racing very close in the leading positions.
The defending champion of the Melges World League Fremito d'Arja by Dario Levi (with Stefano Cherin calling tactics) picks up where he left off last year, taking the lead on the first day of the Melges 20 Tuscany Grand Prix organized by the Yacht Club Isole di Toscana and proving to be in excellent shape as a team to beat. All this in a very close challenge first of all with Pietro Loro Piana at the helm of Gone Squatching (tactician Francesco Ivaldi) who successfully signs the first test of the season and, at the end of the day, chases the leader three points away. In provisional third place, in a very short ranking at the top, the Monegasque Nika of Vladimir Prosikhin (Manu Weiller calling tactics) who, after a sixth place in the first round, pushes hard on the accelerator, collecting a second and a first as partials.
Dario Levi - "We are very satisfied to still be, at least for now, in front of everyone with our team and Stefano Cherin at the tactics that continue to do the job that this challenge requires in a class that is confirmed to be of top level where it is always a pleasure to race. The season is only at the beginning, our objectives are the same as many of our rivals and it will therefore be very interesting to see how this long race course will end and not just the first stage of the circuit that everyone, however, wants to try to make their own. "
Tomorrow alongside the Melges 20 fleet the Melges 14 class will make its seasonal debut in the Melges World League for two days of pure one design sailing while the Melges 32 are expected between the buoys starting from the next circuit appointment, in Porto San Giorgio , in early May.
