The long weekend of regattas of the Sardinia Grand Prix, valid as the penultimate stage of the Melges World League 2022 circuit, ended on lazy day as far as the wind is concerned.
From yesterday's crystallized ranking, with six races disputed and a gap in both classes, the German Wilma of Fritz Homann (with Nico Celon in tactics) among the Melges 32 and the Monegasque Nika of Vladimir Prosikhin (Manu Weiller in tactical calls)in the Melges 20 fleet are the winners.
Wilma with the success in the Sardinia Grand Prix repeats the victory already obtained last June in Gaeta, thus consolidating its leadership in the circuit ranking. Wilma (pt. 8) on the Villasimius race course preceded the Italian Enfant Terrible (pt. 13) of Alberto Rossi (with Vasco Vascotto) who, after an almost perfect first day of racing, gave way to the constant performance and solidity of Fritz Homann's crew.
In third place the Norwegian Pippa of Lasse Petterson (together with Gabriele Benussi) just one point from second place (pt. 14)
The signature on the Sardina Grand Prix in the Melges 20 class is the one of Nika (pt. 7) with a script similar to what we saw in the Melges 32 fleet: after a first day in the lead, the other Monegasque team of Matteo Marenghi Vaselli's Raya (pt. 12) (with the Olympian Tomislav Basic) had to surrend to the attacks of Nika who with this success also interrupts the winning streak achieved so far by the Italian Fremito d'Arja (pt.14) of Dario Levi who completes the podium.
In the Corinthian division the German colors still have success in the Melges 32 with Heat by Max Augustin while among the Melges 20 the victory is for TeamBianca of Bianca Limonta and Davide Castelli.
The spotlights of the Melges World League now remain on Sardinia, on the spectacular Puntaldia field which will host the World Championship of both classes from 21 to 24 September, an event that will also be valid as the final for the Melges World League 2022 circuit.
