Fifth placed Éric Péron passes Cape Horn and sets a Pacific record for this race

Only hours after fourth placed Anthony Marchand – who passed last night at 2225hrs UTC - this afternoon it was the turn of fifth placed Éric Péron (ULTIM ADAGIO) to round Cape Horn. He passed at 1518hrs UTC this afternoon and In so doing sets the fastest time for the Pacific on this race, 1 hour and 14 minutes quicker than Charles Caudrelier.

But for Éric Péron on the oldest ULTIM in the fleet, a boat which does not have foils, passing Cape Horn today was a just reward for the 42 year old from Quimper in Brittany who raced five legs of the 2014-2015 edition of The Ocean Race on Dongfeng Race Team. Péron had to stop in Cape Town but had a dream passage of the Pacific on the leading edge of a front which he rode almost all the way across from Tasmania to the Horn. He has also pulled back some 800 miles on his friend and former Figaro class rival Anthony Marchand who is now just over 300 miles ahead. They now just have the matter of 7,000 or so miles to the finish line in Brest.
