Dan Lenard, designer, co-founder and chief of design of the yacht design Studio Nuvolari Lenard but also founder of the Vela Code Foundation and it's Movement could not finish his attempt to break a Guinness World Record for a man’s longest unassisted solo non-stop sailing in a dinghy, PSA build ILCA 7.
Due to the weather conditions, week or completely absent wind that after five days ended with the arrival of a perfect storm he was forced to take the right decision to stop, prioritizing the principle of safety first. The system of several storms in 24 hours had an intensity of 50 kts plus of winds.
He was sailing without stopping for 110 hours and achieved 220 nautical miles and stopped in perfect physical condition with strong desire to continue with sailing.
Dan followed the Vela Code rules, so zero emissions trip and zero single-use plastic packaging on board.
The second attempt is scheduled for late June 2025 when he will look for a favourable weather window of 7 days and try to break 500 miles distance in non-stop dinghy sailing.
