Heesen Yachts has announced the appointment of Jeroen van der Meer as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective September 2025. This decision marks a key step in the shipyard’s strategy, following its recent acquisition by new owner Laurens Last.

Van der Meer succeeds Niels Vaessen, who leaves the role after thirteen years of collaboration with the shipyard, first as Chief Financial Officer and later as CEO. Heesen has expressed its gratitude to Vaessen for his long-standing contribution to the growth and stability of the company.

The Profile of the New CEO

Born and raised in Vlissingen, in a family closely tied to the sea – his father was a ship captain and later a maritime pilot – Jeroen van der Meer developed a strong connection to the Dutch shipbuilding industry from an early age. A Mechanical Engineer with an MBA from Eindhoven University, his career has focused on strategic restructuring, industrial automation, and lean manufacturing, with the goal of enhancing efficiency and reducing time to market.

A Vision for the Future

Owner Laurens Last emphasized how this appointment is a cornerstone for Heesen’s future strategy:

“Our goal is to strengthen Heesen’s reputation by focusing on quality, innovation, and the client experience. Jeroen’s appointment is a strategic step to accelerate this vision. His expertise in manufacturing excellence and his ability to inspire teams will be essential in improving production processes, investing in sustainable technologies, and reinforcing the unique bond with our clients, their captains, and crews.”

Outgoing CEO Niels Vaessen added: “I have great respect for Heesen’s craftspeople and am grateful for these years of service. I am confident that, under its new ownership, the shipyard is entering an exciting new chapter.”

Jeroen van der Meer’s Priorities

In commenting on his new role, Van der Meer described Heesen as “a global icon in the superyacht sector, built on exceptional Dutch craftsmanship.” His mandate will focus on: Process optimization, through the integration of advanced digital and automation systems. Talent development, enhancing internal expertise and fostering innovation. Customer experience as a central element, with close attention to detail and world-class after-sales service. Investment in sustainability, aimed at reducing the environmental impact of production.

“Our mission is not just to meet our clients’ expectations, but to anticipate them, offering a Heesen experience that is second to none,” he stated.

With the appointment of Jeroen van der Meer, Heesen Yachts is entering a new phase, determined to strengthen its position in the global superyacht market through innovation, sustainability, and the renowned quality of Dutch shipbuilding.
