It was a long and challenging morning for the teams of Group A on day 2 of the qualifiers for the Puig Women’s America’s Cup. Due to the extremely unstable breeze the Race Committee was only able to give the start to one of the four scheduled races, despite the multiple postponements both on land and on water. By 4 pm the call was made to send all teams back to shore due to lack of wind.
The PWAC will continue tomorrow with races #6, #7 and #8, with the first race scheduled for 10:10 am (weather permitting). Once the qualification round of Group A is completed the Committee will start the four semifinal races between the top six teams (top three from each group). The first semifinal race is expected to start at 14:10.
RACE #05
The regatta turned out to be extremely challenging due to the formed waves and very inconsistent and patchy breeze. After a good start on the left side of the line, Luna Rossa had enough wind to stay on the foils and round the first mark in third place. On the first downwind leg, however, the breeze died out suddenly and the boats fell off their foils and stalled. Luna Rossa was also caught in a windless patch and struggled to get back on the foils. Despite the complicated conditions the Italian crew was able to recover several positions and closed the race in fourth place.
Luna Rossa: 4th (+ 3 points).
The Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli crew features: Giulia Conti, Margherita Porro (helmswomen), Maria Giubilei, and Giulia Fava (trimmers).
