Today saw the conclusion of competition at the Under-19 Youth Championships for single-handed sailing, organised by the Italian Sailing Federation and held in Genoa, which started on 30 August. In the iQFOiL Class, Federico Pilloni, an athlete from the Young Azzurra programme run by the YCCS, took victory by scoring consecutive wins in all 14 of the races held.
On the first day of the event it was not possible to race due to the weather conditions, but on the following days the competition took place as planned. Seven course races and seven slalom races were completed, with Federico Pilloni always leading the fleet across the finish line.
‘I am very happy with the number of races we did and to have been able to get to know and compete with the young sailors in the iQFOiL class. This event represented a sort of training for me in view of the next important events, first of all the Italian Olympic Classes Championship scheduled from 26 to 29 September at home, in Cagliari. I had the opportunity to try out some new things in races in a relaxed atmosphere, and I feel very happy and ready for the upcoming events.’ commented Freddy.
