Maddalena Spanu, an athlete from the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda's Young Azzurra program, has won the Chinese stage of the WingFoil Racing World Cup, finishing ahead of Poland's second placed Karolina Kluszczynska and France's third placed Vaina Picot.

Held in Deishan from September 3 to 7, the event was characterized by light winds. On the first day, three long-distance races were held over which Maddalena immediately took the overall lead on the rankings. Over the course of the event she achieved a formidable eight victories from 11 races, discarding three second places as her worst results in the series. These results guaranteed her direct progress to the Medal Series, which was supposed to take place today but unfortunately could not be completed due to the lack of wind. The existing rankings then leave Maddalena Spanu as the winner of the stage and with this result, she remains firmly at the top of the World Cup rankings. As at the last World Cup in Turkey, Maddalena also recorded the Top Speed of the event in the women's category.

“The main challenge,” said Maddalena, "was from Karolina from Poland, with whom I had a particularly close battle in some races. Overall, I am satisfied with my performance, which has previously been inconsistent in light winds. I am sorry that today, the last day of the event, it was not possible to hold the Medal Race, but at the same time I am happy to have recorded consistent results that allowed me to win an event that is decisive for the World Championship ranking, where I am currently in the lead."

The next event for the Young Azzurra athlete will be at home, in Cagliari from September 24 to 28. In the meantime, Maddalena will be in Porto Cervo in the coming days to take part in the 35th edition of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup aboard Viriella, owned by YCCS member Vittorio Moretti, with Mauro Pelaschier at the helm.

The YCCS congratulates Maddalena on her excellent result.
