Prohibitive conditions in the Gulf of Tigullio forced the Race Committee to cancel today's race. High seas and shifting wind forced the yachts to remain at their moorings all morning, waiting in vain for the weather to improve. At 3 PM came the official announcement, everything postponed until tomorrow, with the start set for 10:30 AM for the fourth and final day of the Regate di Primavera, with the declared aim of also recovering today's race.
Filling the gap left by the cancellation was the Portofino quayside, with a series of fascinating events in the past 24 hours. Opening the dances yesterday evening was Zelmira Frers, heir of the great naval architect German; in the Rolex lounge she presented her book 'The Story behind Recluta', dedicated to the wreck and later rebirth of a boat – the Recluta – which is now mythical stop yacht owners, crews, sponsors and journalists were then hosted by Mylius in the restaurant of Carlo Cracco, while at the same time the town square packed with locals and curious onlookers was illuminated by the lighting of the traditional and propitiatory bonfire of Saint George, dedicated to the patron saint.
