Limone sul Garda, August 20, 2021. Qualifying rounds at the Youth Foiling Gold Cup ended today and Young Azzurra is in third place. This result allows the YCCS team to skip the first two knock out rounds and to go directly to the last one.

The Young Azzurra team is composed of skipper Ettore Botticini, flight controller Federico Colaninno and two mainsail trimmers, Francesca Bergamo and Erica Ratti, who take turns aboard. The qualifying rounds were staged over five days. Young Azzurra got consistent results placing first five times and second or third often over a total of 15 races. The team also tried alternating roles aboard with Erica Ratti and Francesca Bergamo sailing as flight controllers and Federico Colaninno sailing as mainsail trimmer. During this second event in the Youth Foiling Gold Cup the team is fine tuning the boat and perfecting their performance technique ahead of the finals that will be held in Cagliari in November.

Gabriele Bruni, coach of the Young Azzurra team: “These past few days were very useful for observing our competitors. Our team made some small errors that cost them penalty points in some races, but now we will have two days to rest while the knock out rounds are held. We’ll use the down time to analyse our performance and work on improving.”

Ettore Botticini, skipper of Young Azzurra: “We want to get good results at this Youth Foiling Gold Cup event, but our real objective here is to try out all of our possible team formations so that we can get the most out of our boat.”
