Knowing how to anchor is a skill learned through manuals but refined through experience—by actually using a boat. However, to ensure that anchoring can truly be considered safe, it is essential not only to master the manoeuvre but also to rely on the quality, performance, and efficiency of both the anchor and the windlass system.
Following the launch of the Olympic Anchors series— CQR-style anchors for boats up to 20 metres long, equipped with an innovative patented anti-rollover system—the Quick Group, under its Quick Nautical Equipment brand, unveiled the Riviera range of mooring and windlass systems by Sanguineti at the September boat shows. This time, the Italian holding based in Ravenna, which also includes Nemo and Xenta, has focused on the luxury yacht sector, where Sanguineti has represented the pinnacle of Italian-made marine accessories for over 60 years, including mooring systems. These include retractable systems, thanks to patented technology, as well as fixed solutions, such as the Riviera series.
First and foremost, the material used for the Riviera systems stands out: AISI 316L stainless steel. This is a low-carbon, molybdenum-chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel, part of the AISI 316 family. AISI 316L is distinguished by its excellent resistance to localised corrosion, particularly pitting corrosion and crevice corrosion. These types of corrosion are common in marine environments, where chlorides in saltwater can easily attack steel.
The Riviera windlass and mooring systems are designed for superyachts ranging from 20 to 70 metres in length. They can accommodate standard or stud-link chains between 12 mm and 26 mm in diameter, fitted onto a bronze chainwheel located beneath the bell. The entire range comes with an integrated sensor and magnet for chain counters, remote controls, and, depending on the model, three-phase electric motors ranging from 3.5 kW to 15 kW. It is noteworthy that the entire Riviera series has type approvals from leading certification bodies, including RINA, Lloyd's Register, and ABS.
Accompanying the Riviera series, the Ligurian company offers a complete range of deck accessories to ensure secure mooring for captains and crews. These include bow rollers, chain stoppers, and stainless steel swivels. To further support their windlass systems, Sanguineti also supplies various types of galvanised or stainless steel chains and anchors.
