Amer Yachts has presented the Amer 42A project, a 42-metre yacht built entirely in aluminium in both hull and superstructure. The "A" in the designation refers to the construction material. Exterior design and the project concept are by architect Antonio Luxardo.
The choice of aluminium as the sole structural material has direct implications for the vessel's overall weight and performance: the reduced mass allows higher speeds for a given power output and greater efficiency underway. Aluminium's ductility and flexibility also enable the creation of curves, undercuts and cantilevers that would be difficult to achieve in other materials, a characteristic that Luxardo has used in shaping the project's formal language.
The most recognisable design feature is the treatment of the deck lines: rather than following a horizontal, layered arrangement, the deck markers are articulated in a sinuous movement. The side glazing is extensive, conceived to maintain a visual connection between interior and exterior.
The interior layout includes a full-beam owner's suite on the main deck, guest cabins on the lower deck and a sundeck. The spatial arrangement combines communal areas with private zones.
The project is part of the ongoing collaboration between Luxardo and Amer Yachts, which began five years ago with the Steel line and continued with the fibreglass models 96 Sanremo, F106 and F126.
