Although the regatta was confirmed just two weeks before its start, by the organising club Circolo Nautico Santa Margherita and the Comune di Caorle, Gregor Stimpfl, the owner of the brand new Scuderia 65, took a “last minute” decision to take part and use this 200nm race as a “shake down” and test for the upcoming regattas of the boat like the Middle Sea race in autumn. It meant also that the boat Captain, Aldo Scuderi, had just three days to change the boat from cruising to racing mode and bring the boat to Caorle in time.
Anyway, all the effort was finally worth it. The new Scuderia 65 took Line Honours (first boat home) and won her class in her first regatta outing. In the crew around skipper Gregor Stimpfl were some Italian campions like Sergio Blosi, Lorenzo Tonini, Silvio Santoni, Enrico Turrini, navigator Nevio Sabadin, OneSails designer Samuele Nicolettis, etc.
A satisfied owner Gregor Stimpfl… “Nevertheless of the general situation, being able to participating in regattas again is important, and gives you hope and confidence. The La Duecento was the right regatta to test the new boat and her potential. We suffered a bit in the light airs on Friday afternoon. especially the small very light boats were on our neck and gave us a hard time at the beginning of the regatta. Nevertheless we could separate ourselves well in the evening and night of Friday to gain a good margin and bring the victory safely home. Big thanks to the crew for their good work and positive spirit which have been created on boar. An important first victory for the boat...”
Next regattas for the boat will be the Barcolana in Trieste and the Middle Sea Race in Malta in October
