Sanlorenzo arrives at Port Hercule for the Monaco Yacht Show 2024, the most prestigious international boat show dedicated to Superyachts that, from September 25th to 28th, showcases over 120 superyachts and megayachts ranging from 25 to 100 meters in length.
In the exclusive setting of the Principality's port, the Italian yachting Maison will present two of its most revolutionary models: 50Steel, the world's first superyacht to use the Reformer Fuel Cell system with green methanol for electricity generation, and SP110, an open coupe that perfectly combines Italian design with high-level performance, maximum attention to sustainability, and unique comfort.
50Steel
50Steel, a 50-metre displacement superyacht with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, perfectly embodies Sanlorenzo's ability to lead innovation in the industry, embracing cutting-edge solutions not only in design, but also in technology and sustainability. With 50Steel, the shipyard introduces a unique product to the market, a jewel of innovation that marks a milestone in the technological progress of the nautical industry, and reaches a new important milestone in the Maison's path towards carbon neutrality.
Thanks to the exclusive agreement signed with Siemens Energy, 50Steel is in fact the first superyacht in the world to use the Reformer Fuel Cell system powered by green methanol for electricity generation. The totally carbon neutral system significantly increases the time spent at anchor without consuming diesel fuel, covering around 90% of a superyacht's typical operating time in zero emissions, enabling a 20-30% reduction in emissions annually. Thanks to this revolutionary solution, 50Steel has received the SEA Index® certification, set up by the Yacht Club de Monaco and Credit Suisse in collaboration with Lloyd's Register. The acknowledgement, designed to reward cutting-edge projects capable of charting a course for the entire nautical sector, is a system for assessing a vessel's energy efficiency and environmental impact, measured by the CO2 emissions it produces.
But 50Steel's innovations do not end with its commitment to sustainability. In fact, this superyacht introduces to the market another innovation destined to mark the history of the nautical industry, the Hidden Engine Room (HER) system. A revolutionary on-board concept patented by Sanlorenzo, the HER system envisages a new arrangement for the engine room: from the two levels usually occupied, there is now a horizontal development of the propulsion equipment and a new distribution of the technical area in the lower deck. This makes it possible to exploit new spaces in the lower deck, making room for a valuable area of additional living space, modifying the boat's traditional layout.
50Steel then introduces an extraordinary innovation in terms of interior design. The yacht is indeed developed on five staggered decks, reducing partitions and barriers, and generating spaces with particularly airy volumes that are open to the outside. Each of the five decks is articulated on two levels, a solution that goes beyond the classic subdivision into vertical decks, developing the horizontal axis of the spaces with unusual plays of perspective and unexpected connections. The overall effect is of a vast single space which, thanks to the large glass surfaces, is in a constant dialogue with the outside environment and the sea. This new and disruptive interior architecture is nevertheless imperceptible from the exterior profile, which maintains a clean and essential line, in perfect Sanlorenzo style.
SP110
Launched in 2022, SP110 is the new open coupé with which Sanlorenzo opens to the world of sports yachts, offering an evolved and revolutionary solution capable of perfectly combining the unmistakable Made in Italy design with top level performance, maximum attention to sustainability and unique comfort. With this project, the shipyard has taken a further step forward in the research and development of low environmental impact technologies: the first yacht in the SP - ‘Smart Performance’ range, SP110 aims to guarantee high performance with maximum energy efficiency thanks to a fractional propulsion system consisting of three engines with an optimal power-to-weight ratio, which allows for great flexibility, reduced consumption and a different range depending on the desired speed.
The yacht is also equipped with an energy recovery system that uses high-efficiency 6 kW monocrystalline solar panels flanked by a lithium battery pack that allows the boat to power the hotel services for several hours without the use of generators. The SP110 is a two-deck yacht with an unprecedented layout, consisting of extremely large surfaces that can be exploited in a variety of ways, for unparalleled interior and exterior liveability on a yacht of this type. The interiors follow an elegant minimalism, using lightened materials such as lava stone and making the most of the ample spaces on board, which are designed to favour conviviality and privacy, with innovative solutions such as the enlarged sun deck and the equipped bow dinette.
Precisely because of its cutting-edge features, SP110 received this year's important Compasso d'Oro 2024 award from ADI - Associazione per il Disegno Industriale, which celebrates virtuous projects that combine quality, innovation and cultural impact. Moreover, Sanlorenzo has recently announced the issue of the world's first certification for ‘Digital Yachting’ by RINA, conferred to the sixth unit of the SP110 line. The recognition marks a new chapter in the maison's ongoing commitment to innovation and digital transformation in the nautical sector.
Once again, this year Sanlorenzo is bringing the best of its innovation capacity to Monaco - not only in technology and engineering, but also in design; and showcasing the spearheads of its commitment to sustainability, confirming its role as a pioneer in the nautical sector.
