One race only at the 2022 Star South American Championship
Only one race could be sailed today in Buenos Aires at the Yacht Club Argentino, Dársena Norte, for the 2022 Star South American Championship, with the start brought one hour forward due to a very light wind forecast. It was a very complicated day, extreme heat and a light breeze from the North, against the current, that stayed just under six knots.
Race three of the Championship started around 11am, and the best to interpret the very tricky conditions were Marcelo Fuchs and Arthur Lopes (BRA), with this bullet, they close the day in second place overall. Second in the only race of the day another Brazilian team, Mario Sergio de Jesus Jr and Pedro Trouche, fourth in the general ranking. Leandro and Lucas Altolaguirre, from Buenos Aires, confirmed yesterday's leading position with a third place in today's regatta. Third overall now are Fabian Mac Gowan and Mauricio Bueno (ARG), who had a bad day (14) after two very good races yesterday.
Following the waiting on the water, with the sailors swimming to cool off in the very hot temperature, the Race Committee sent the 25-boat fleet back ashore with AP over H, still hopeful to get the second race of the day in. After an hour of hanging in the shade though, they decided to postpone race four to tomorrow, as the wind was irrevocably dying.
It was drinks and grilled matambritos today in the after-race party under the Corna Badaracco, with great expectations for the Argentina vs. Holland match at the Football World Championship in Qatar. Regardless of the football result though, tomorrow everyone in the fleet will be back on the water for another two races of the 2022 Star South American Championship, and so on until Sunday December the 11th.
