SLAM alongside the Star Class
SLAM alongside the Star Class
There are boats that belong not only to the history of sailing but continue to define its present. The Star is one of them: a legend of the sea that still today represents one of the purest expressions of sailing skill.
SLAM announces its partnership with the International Star Class, one of the most iconic and respected classes in International Sailing; a meeting point for World champions, Olympians, America’s Cup skippers and sailors seeking the purest challenge with the wind, the boat and their competitors.
As part of the collaboration, SLAM will develop a dedicated International Star Class collection. The collection will serve to accompany the Star community, beyond the racecourse as well, strengthening the sense of belonging to one of the most prestigious fraternities in world sailing.
For SLAM, standing alongside the Star Class means entering a special space within international sailing. Not simply a class, but a sporting heritage built over more than a century of racing, technical development, respect and passion for the sea.
“The Star Class holds a noble and authentic role in Sailing. It is a class that has shaped generations of great sailors and continues to express values we deeply identify with: competence, passion, sporting culture, respect for the sea and for competitors. At SLAM, we look forward to designing and producing a line of clothing that will live up to the high standards of this iconic class.” said Enrico Chieffi, President of SLAM and Star and 470 World Champion.
The partnership is part of SLAM’s ongoing journey alongside sailing in its broadest and most authentic expression. With the Star Class, this story reconnects with one of its noblest roots: the sailing of great masters, long races, decisive tactical choices and duels where every meter is earned through experience and precision.
Adding further symbolic value is the role of Paul Cayard, President of the International Star Class and reigning Star World Champion. Cayard perfectly represents the bridge between elite international sailing and the deepest soul of the Star: Olympian, America’s Cup protagonist, ocean racing winner and today leader of a Class that continues to attract the best sailors in the world.
“The Star Class has always represented the highest level of competitive sailing,” said Paul Cayard. “Its history is extraordinary, but what makes the Class truly special is that it continues to attract the best sailors in the world while creating a great sense of camaraderie amongst all. We are proud to welcome SLAM to the Star Class, because they understand the heritage, values and spirit that make this community unique.”
“Honoring the Past, Leading the Future.”, is the guiding principle of the Star Class. A vision that feels close to SLAM: honoring history without remaining trapped in it. Looking ahead without losing the connection to what has built the culture of sailing.
