2022 will see Sorrento and its stunning coastline host the traditional regattas that bring the who's who of international sailing to the Gulf of Naples each May.

The appointment, as always, will be on the waters of Santa Lucia, Naples, overlooked by the imposing walls of Castel dell'Ovo.

On Saturday 14 May, the 67th edition of the Regata dei Tre Golfi will set off on its classic route, leaving the islands of Procida, Ventotene and Ponza to port before returning to round the Li Galli rocks off Positano, and cross the finish line off Capri. The course covers around 150 miles in the three gulfs of Naples, Gaeta and Salerno.

After crossing the finish line, the boats will moor in Sorrento, their logistical base for four intense days of coastal and windward-leeward racing on the same regatta course used in previous years, stretching between Punta della Campanella, the Faraglioni of Capri and Procida, the island nominated Italian capital of culture for 2022.

The Maxi yachts will be moored at the main dock in Marina Piccola, while the ORC fleet will dock in Piano di Sorrento, just under a mile away.

"We are ready, and delighted to welcome the world of sailing that has made this race great" commented Massimo Coppola, Mayor of Sorrento. "Sorrento is famous the world over for its hospitality and we are ready to show that our reputation is well-deserved."

Roberto Mottola, President of the Circolo Remo e Vela Italia, which has always organised the Sailing Week in May: "First of all I want to thank our sponsor Rolex for their support over the years, and the IMA and ORC class associations, who have confirmed their faith in us by entrusting us with important international title events.
My thanks also go to the Mayor of Sorrento, who has opened his city to us. We are sorry to be leaving Capri, but the event has reached such significant fleets of entries that a different logistical approach was necessary to allow us to comfortably accommodate at least 150 boats. Sorrento, with its three ports within a radius of just one mile, gives us the best possible options."
