Winners of the DAME Design Awards at the METSTRADE 2016

The DAME Design Award is the most prestigious international design competition for new marine equipment and accessories. Over the past 25 years, independently appointed judges examined thousands of products in specific marine categories. The DAME Design Award has come to set the pace for new concepts and designs in the worldwide leisure marine industry. Participation in DAME Awards is exclusively reserved to METSTRADE exhibitors.

The DAME Design Award Jury carefully assess entries for overall design, build quality, functionality, and use of materials; other factors taken into account are originality, ergonomics and price/quality ratio.

In 2016, 67 products were nominated to go forward for final judging by the Jury of the silver jubilee edition of the 26th DAME Design Award competition. The products were selected from a total of 117 entries from 26 countries and the jury selected seven Category Winners and one Overall Winner. The Jury also identified 22 Special Mentions (runners-up to the winners that highly merit a commendation).

This year DAME has been awarded to a new innovation which will promote green boating, a development the Jury is excited about. Jury Chair Bill Dixon presented the overall DAME award to the Cruise FP Models from Torqeedo GmbH during the opening ceremony of the METSTRADE Show 2016.

Electric motors for sailboats: smaller, lighter and more economical than ever. Torqeedo’s Cruise FP models are exceptionally small and lightweight. An 8 HP equivalent weighs a mere 15.8 kg.
