2024 ILCA 6 World Championship: five Italians in the Gold Fleet
The third day of the 2024 ILCA 6 World Championship ended with just one race but closing the qualifying phase as scheduled.
For five of the six Italian athletes, today's results allow them to enter the gold fleet. The ranking still sees the Danish Rindom in command, followed by the Swede Olsson just one point behind while the German Busselberg rises to third place.
The Italians in the ranking see Zennaro twenty-fifth, Benini Floriani thirty-second, Albano thirty-fourth, Talluri forty-fifth and Della Valle fiftieth (all in the gold fleet) and Savelli seventy-fourth in the silver fleet.
The day was characterized by south-east wind, the committee, after having held the first test, preferred to bring forward the return of the athletes to the ground to avoid possible weather variations.
Today marks the end of the qualifying phase which allows access to the final stages by dividing the participants into the two Gold and Silver fleets based on the ranking; finals which will therefore begin regularly from tomorrow.
The voice of the protagonists:
Chiara Benini Floriani: “Today we only did one test because a strong storm was forecast which forced us to return early. My test was characterized by a bad start, because risking the black flag I was delayed. Then during the regatta I recovered many positions, finishing in sixteenth place. Starting tomorrow the Gold Fleet: everything will be reset and we will start again from scratch.”
