Claudia Rossi and Cecilia Zorzi are the winners in La Maddalena
Claudia Rossi and Cecilia Zorzi with Mexedia Sailing Project are the winners of the first edition of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Female Offshore Mediterranean Championship, an offshore regatta that began on Tuesday at 12 from Genoa and ended late yesterday evening in La Maddalena, where the Benetau Figaro 3 protagonists of the event organized by Sailing Series International came within a short distance of each other.
In command from the start, given in a light breeze, the Rossi-Zorzi duo on board the Mexedia Sailing Project, did not encounter particular difficulties during the navigating to Sardinia, even if the stiff wind in the bow and the rough sea tested the physical stamina of the crews.
"It was a beautiful regatta, characterized by a long upwind sailing, first towards the approach to Capo Corso, then along the east coast of Corsica - explained Claudia Rossi, reigning Double Mixed Offshore World Champion along with Pietro D'Alì - Me and Cecilia were organized in the best possible way to face the increase of the breeze and the important swell that at a certain point, for us as well as for our opponents, tried to block our way: we are very satisfied with this success, with our speed on the water and how we managed to prepare the boat in a few days before the start".
Not far from the winning due the Uruguayan Dominique Knuppel, former protagonist of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Veloce, and the Spanish Olympian Patricia Cantero, who went in second place, showed up at the finish line in La Maddalena. Third place went to Katarina Svedjefalt and Kate Ledgard, on the podium right in front to Melanie Aalburg and Helen Fischer.
After the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Female Offshore Mediterranean Championship, Sailing Series International wades now at the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Double Mixed Offshore European Championship, scheduled in La Maddalena between 10 and 15 May 2022.
