The Finns and the Swiss take control of the Xacobeo 6mR Europeans

Sanxenxo, 15th September 2021. The general classification of the Xacobeo 6mR Europeans becomes increasingly close, with the third and fourth races of the championship, and continuous position changes. On Wednesday, the two fleet categories are in the hands of Ossi Paija's "Astrée III" in the Classics division and Michel Teweles' "Thisbe" in the Open.
 
Once again Eolo made things difficult in the Ria de Pontevedra. As forecast, after an hour's postponement on shore, the fleet, finally left the docks at 13:00h with a north-easterly wind of between six and eight knots. An extremely unstable wind meant the Race committee were forced to delay until 14:45h before starting the first race, on a course situated just of the Lanzada beach.
 
Finnish team "Astrée III" claims leadership in the Classics division

The Classics fleet began the second day of the Xacobeo 6mR Europeans with an incredible performance from Laureano Wizner's team "Caprice." The team representing the Club Marítimo de Canido, achieved their first partial victory, whilst the leaders of Day one, Javier de la Gándara's "Aida" (Real Club Náutico de A Coruña), were fourth. Behind Wizner's team, second and third place were claimed by Ossi Paija's "Astrée III" (Nyländska JK) and "Alibaba II" from the Monte Real Club de Yates, with Miguel Lago at the helm.
 
In the second race a complete turnaround, with "Alibaba II" claiming an indisputable victory ahead of the representatives from the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo (RCNS): Pedro Campos's "Bribon 500," that achieved their best result in the championship so far, in second place, and Mauricio Sánchez-Bella's "Titia," in third.
 
The day's results mean "Astrée III" sweeps the lead away from Javier de la Gándara's "Aida," who today managed a 4-8 in the partials and have moved into second place overall. "Alibaba II" has moved into third.
 
Michel Teweles's Swiss team "Thisbe," new leaders of the Open

In the Open division, a striking win in the first race for one of the great favourites for the title, Durr Philippe's "Junior," winners of four World Championships between 2011 and 2019. The Swiss team from the Club Nautique de Versoix claimed a comfortable partial victory, having started the competition with a discreet eight and tenth place. Following them were Swiss team Michel Teweles' "Thisbe" and the Portuguese crew on Patrick Monteiro's "Seljm" (Clube Naval de Cascais).
 
In the second race, "Seljm" were not leaving anything to chance; they fought for first place throughout the race and crossed the finish line ahead of Hugo Stenbeck's "Sophie Racing" in second and "Thisbe," in third.
 
As such, Wednesday's results have seen a complete turn-around in the provisional podium of the Open division, with "Thisbe" moving into the lead with a one-point advantage over the second and third placed teams: Claes Henningsson's "Notorious" that moves into second place having clocked up a seventh and fifth place, and Patrick Monteiro's "Seljm."
 
The Infanta Doña Elena, at the Xacobeo 6mR Europeans

On Wednesday, the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo welcomed the Infanta doña Elena. On her arrival at the club, accompanied by the club President Pedro Campos, the Infanta went to the docks to greet the crews and wish them all luck in the competition, before herself heading out to watch the racing from the water.
