Nanni N4.80 powers Gabart's family voyage
François Gabart, winner of the Vendée Globe and holder of the solo round-the-world record, is leaving the racing circuit for a family voyage around the world aboard his own catamaran, which has undergone a full refit.
The work included replacing the engine with a Nanni N4.80. The four-cylinder unit is built on a Kubota block, delivers 80 hp and produces high torque at low RPM.
"What we wanted was something reliable, simple, and efficient, something I could easily maintain, even on the other side of the world," Gabart said.
He has known Nanni engines since his years on the Figaro circuit. "Back then, all the Figaros were already equipped with Nanni engines. I've always had great confidence in these engines and in this brand. I'm happy to continue this partnership," he added.
The refit is being carried out in Concarneau. Méca Diesel, Nanni's official distributor for Brittany, oversaw the engine installation. After-sales support during the voyage is handled through the network of authorised Nanni dealers.
