Ferretti Group adopts Watchit Sense 360 exclusively: radar picks up what AIS does not show

Buoys, floating objects, obstacles, vessels with no onboard equipment or with AIS switched off: all of them would escape AIS monitoring on its own. That is the ground covered by Watchit Sense 360, the new generation of the anti-collision system that Ferretti Group announced on 23 September it is adopting exclusively.

Aqua Marina Tech, an Israeli company that develops and supplies technology solutions for boating, introduced the system four years ago. The first generation cross-referenced data from digital charts, position and route; with the integration of AIS (Automatic Identification System), anti-collision awareness extended to the surrounding maritime traffic. Radar detection is the third layer.

Watchit Sense 360 integrates with the Simrad multifunction displays and the Halo radar systems already on board and, according to Ferretti Group, can detect what AIS alone does not report. Software continuously assesses the level of risk and issues visual and audible alerts only when it detects a concrete danger, working in the background without diverting the attention of the captain and crew.

The system is designed for cruising yachts. Ferretti Group says it adapts automatically to every navigation condition, whether offshore, in congested waters, in port areas or at anchor, with no need to change modes or make manual adjustments.
