Today is Youth Day at Lendy Cowes week - Day 5

A sparkling day with more bright sun and a change to a boisterous south-westerly wind that gave gusts close to 25 knots in the early afternoon.

Thousands of sailors came ashore sporting big grins after an energetic day that saw many thrills and spills on the downwind legs.

Tony Langley’s TP52, racing in IRC Class 0, won the prestigious Queen’s Cup. This is the first of the major trophies that are being raced for over the next three days in the Triple Crown series for the biggest boats at the regatta.

Today is Youth Day at Lendy Cowes week, with the spotlight shining on the numerous young sailors, teams and skippers at the event. Last year's YJA Young Sailor of the Year winner and inner city sailing hero, Montel Fagan-Jordan has gone on to inspire more youth to take on the sport of sailing and compete this year at Lendy Cowes Week. A crew of young kids from Montel's Greig City Academy in London are back this week competing on Scaramouche. 

The Dutch boat Team Heiner lll (pictured), skippered by Arianne van de Loosdrecht, won IRC Class 3 and is in line to win both the Land Rover Under 25 Trophy and the Musto Young Skippers Trophy.
