While the 2026 sailing season is in full swing, preparations are already gathering momentum for the next edition of offshore racing’s premier event. The Royal Danish Yacht Club (KDY), in cooperation with the Offshore Racing Congress (ORC), is pleased to announce that entries are now open for the Garmin ORC World Championship 2027, to be held from August 6–14, 2027, in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The championship will once again bring together the world's leading offshore racing teams to compete for ORC's most prestigious title, this time on the challenging waters of the Øresund and the Baltic approaches.

The Notice of Race has now been published, and teams can submit their entries through the Manage2Sail. The event is open to ORC monohulls of 30 feet and above holding a valid ORC International certificate, with four championship classes expected to deliver close competition across a wide range of yacht designs and sizes.

Renewed Skovshoved and Øresund Waters Welcome the ORC Fleet Back

When the ORC World Championship was last hosted in Denmark in 2016, Skovshoved Harbor welcomed 131 boats from 13 nations, producing one of the largest and most competitive championships in the event's history. Eleven years later, the fleet returns to a venue that combines excellent racing conditions with the unique atmosphere of one of Denmark's most charming sailing harbors.

Visitors arriving in 2027 will discover a renewed Skovshoved Harbor, including brand-new clubhouse facilities scheduled to be completed next spring. The harbor's welcoming and informal character remains unchanged, with its historic fishing village, traditional boat houses and spectacular views across the Øresund waters creating a memorable setting both on and off the water.

Competitors and guests will also find a vibrant waterfront atmosphere, with restaurants and cafés offering everything from Danish classics and open sandwiches to Italian cuisine and casual street food served in the former boat halls.

The Øresund itself provides a racecourse worthy of a world championship. Shifting wind patterns, currents, and tactical opportunities reward smart navigation and versatile crews, ensuring exciting racing throughout the week. The venue has also proven itself on the international stage, having hosted major events including the ORC World Championship in 2016, the Star European Championship in 2022, and the OK Dinghy World Championship in 2026.

Hosted by the Royal Danish Yacht Club, competitors can expect a professional championship experience supported by a new race management fleet, robotic marks and the expertise gained from organising more than twenty-three regattas annually. Located only forty minutes from Copenhagen Airport, Skovshoved also offers convenient access for international teams, support crews and visitors.

“We are really looking forward to welcoming the ORC fleet back to the Royal Danish Yacht Club," says Ann-Marie Mohr, Sports Director at the Royal Danish Yacht Club.

"The Garmin ORC World Championship 2027 will be the first major international event hosted from our new clubhouse in Skovshoved. Together with the unique atmosphere of the harbour and the great sailing conditions on Øresund, we believe it will provide a truly world-class championship experience.”

Garmin Continues Its Strong Support of ORC Championship Sailing

The Offshore Racing Congress is pleased to continue its successful partnership with Garmin as title sponsor of the Garmin ORC World Championship 2027.

Garmin has become an important supporter of ORC championship sailing in recent years, serving as a principal partner of the 2024 ORC European Championship in the Åland Islands, title sponsor of the Garmin ORC World Championship 2025 in Tallinn and Garmin ORC DH European Championship 2025 in Helsinki, and a supporting partner of the 2026 ORC World Championship in Sorrento and 2026 ORC European Championship in Klaipėda.

As a global leader in marine electronics, navigation and performance sailing technology, Garmin's continued commitment reflects a shared dedication to innovation, precision and the advancement of offshore racing. Together with Garmin and the Royal Danish Yacht Club, ORC looks forward to delivering another world-class championship for sailors from around the globe.

“We are delighted to open entries for the Garmin ORC World Championship 2027 and to welcome the fleet back to Copenhagen,” says Bruno Finzi, Chairman of the Offshore Racing Congress.

"Skovshoved and the Royal Danish Yacht Club have already proven themselves as exceptional hosts of our World Championship, and the Øresund offers the kind of challenging and tactical racing that sailors appreciate. I would also like to thank Garmin for its continued support of ORC championship sailing. Their partnership helps us deliver world-class events and further strengthen the international ORC community.

We look forward to seeing teams from around the globe on the starting line in August 2027.”

#RoadToCopenhagen Starts Now

The 2027 championship is open to boats holding a valid ORC International certificate and falling within the event's CDL limits. Four championship classes will compete for World Championship titles, while additional awards will be presented in Corinthian and Female divisions.

The racing program will combine ORC's proven championship format of offshore and inshore competition. Competitors can expect a long offshore race of approximately 30–36 hours for the slowest boats, a shorter offshore race of approximately 10–12 hours and a series of inshore races on the Øresund. Offshore courses may extend into the Kattegat and Baltic Sea, offering a true test of offshore racing skills.

A new feature for the championship will be the mandatory use of Vakaros Atlas 2 RaceSense technology. Further information regarding configuration, rental and purchase options will be published on the Official Notice Board ahead of the event.

Teams are encouraged to support the organisers by registering early and taking advantage of the Early Bird entry fee, available until May 31, 2027. Following the success of recent ORC championships and the strong appeal of Copenhagen as a host city, interest in the Garmin ORC World Championship 2027 is expected to build quickly in the months ahead.
