Palma, (Spain), 25th March 2020

The extension of the current ‘state of alarm’ decreed by the Spanish government due to the coronavirus pandemic, has led to the organisers of the 17th edition of the PalmaVela regatta opting to postpone the event (originally scheduled 6th - 10th of May) in Palma.

The decision was announced today by the Regatta organisers, the Real Club Náutico de Palma, who describe their decision as an exercise in responsibility for the ongoing global health crisis.

Emérico Fuster, president of the RCNP, has declared that in these difficult times for all, it is necessary to follow the recommendations of the health authorities and keep a cool head.

"The important thing now is to contribute to minimize as much as possible the devastating consequences of this virus. We have to guarantee the health of our workers, our partners, the sailors and the high competitiveness that we have always seen in PalmaVela. Better times will come and then we will be able to return to the day-to-day life and regattas.”

The new dates for the 17th PalmaVela, initially planned for this year 2020, will be announced as soon as the current situation allows a new racing program to be scheduled.
