2025 promises to be a special year for the Sandberg PalmaVela, not only because of the consolidation of its offshore version, “La Larga,” which reaches its fifth edition this year with the exciting challenge of breaking the record for entries on an inter-island course through the Balearic archipelago but also due to the addition of a new class, Cape 31, to the multiclass competition held during the first week of May.

“This is fantastic news, not only for the regatta but also for the club, that a brand like Sandberg Estates continues to place its trust in us and even strengthens its commitment to our sporting and social events,” said Manu Fraga, General Manager of the Real Club Náutico de Palma. “In 2024,” Fraga recalled, “Sandberg was already a sponsor of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE and lent its name to the J/70 World Championship, the Sandberg J/70 Worlds. In 2025, it will also become the main sponsor of PalmaVela, giving the regatta its name.”

Sandberg Estates Marketing Manager Lauren Payet says: ‘We are proud to support such an iconic event as PalmaVela. This sponsorship reflects our commitment to celebrating Mallorca's unique maritime heritage and fostering connections within its vibrant community. As a leading real estate agency specialising in luxury real estate, we understand the value of excellence, tradition and innovation, qualities that PalmaVela embodies. Supporting an event that brings together passion, competition and the beauty of the Mediterranean fits perfectly with our values at Sandberg Estates’.

‘Sailing has always been a great passion for our founder, Michael Schwalbach Sandberg, and he is very excited to contribute to the growth of the sport on the island of Mallorca, where he was born and raised. The union of Sandberg Estates and PalmaVela is a union of excellence and ambition. Both names are synonymous with prestige, dedication and passion for achieving the highest standards in their respective fields. In partnering with PalmaVela, our shared goal is to elevate the regatta's position as a must-attend event for the world's best sailing teams. Together, we aim to attract the best sailors and, at the same time, showcase the island's unique beauty and lifestyle to an international audience. The community spirit and familiarity of the Real Club Nautico is similar to the morale of Sandberg Estates, which is what makes this partnership so special for us, and we are delighted to be attending this year's events,’ adds Payet.

Publication of the Notice of Race
On Wednesday, January 15, the organizing committee of the Sandberg PalmaVela published the notice of race for the 21st edition, officially opening registration for all invited classes, ranging from Maxi yachts under IRC rules to monohulls like the ClubSwan 50, Swan 45, ClubSwan 42, Cape 31, J80, J70, 6 Metre, Dragon, Flying Fifteen, and the ORC fleet, which will take their first steps towards the European Championship of the 43rd Copa del Rey MAPFRE. Registration was also opened for “La Larga” for the IRC, ORC, and ORC A2 classes.

One week after registration opened, 25 teams from six countries have already submitted their applications, setting this 21st edition on course to once again be the benchmark event for the start of major Mediterranean regattas. Additionally, the offshore version of the Sandberg PalmaVela will return to its inter-island race format through the Balearic archipelago, featuring notable large yachts such as the British Wallycento “Tilakkhana,” a 100-foot yacht helmed by Pascale Decaux.
