Algebris 69F Cup 2023, GP3 Malcesine
The 2023 season of the world's only existing one-design, monohull, full-foiling circuit for crews continues. The 69F returns to their home base, Fraglia Vela Malcesine, for the third Grand Prix of the Algebris 69F Cup. From tomorrow, June 29th, until Saturday, July 1st, ten crews will battle it out on the green waters of Lake Garda, along with other very fast boats as part of the highly renowned Foiling Week, in its tenth year.
For the anniversary, there will be ten classes racing over ten days, totaling more than 340 boats and 600 participants aboard the prototypes SuMoth, 69F, WASZP, Moth, ETF26, Onefly, Flying Phantom, Birdyfish, and the Wingfoil and iQFoil. It was June 23rd, 2014, the day Foiling Week took its first steps, before becoming the global kermesse for foiling enthusiasts around the world. Since then, nine editions in Italy, two in Australia and two in the United States have taken place, in addition to a nearly two-month Special Event in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) last year. 69F has participated in two of these editions.
As many as eight nations are represented among the ten teams, two teams from the Netherlands and Switzerland, one each from Antigua, Canada, Finland, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and Italy.
The Rum Runners arrive victorious from the Youth Foiling Gold Cup event in La Grande-Motte, France. "We are in Malcesine and we are super excited" – says Rocco Falcone. "We are coming from a high, and we've been preparing a lot, but you never know, and this is an Algebris Cup event, so not just the Youth, there are the big boys here, so it'll be slightly different. The last, and only, time I've sailed on lake Garda was over 10 years ago at the Opti Meeting, these past couple of days have delivered great conditions, I loved it and can't wait to start racing".
The schedule calls for a maximum of six races per day for all three days of racing, and daily prizes will be awarded from this Grand Prix on for Best Track (shortest course), Top Speed (fastest boat) and Boat of the Day (for the day's winner). The appointment is then for tomorrow with the first races of GP3 of the Algebris 69F Cup.
