Changeable conditions today on the waters off Capri meant that the Race Committee of the Rolex Capri Sailing Week had to wait until 2:07 p.m. for the speed and direction of the breeze to stabilise before starting the final race of this Capri leg of the RCSW 2021. The maxi yachts completed a windward-leeward course today with 2 upwind and 2 downwind legs, for a total of 8 miles, accompanied by a breeze of 6 to 7 knots from the south and flat seas. Thanks to the patience and perseverance of the Race Committee - led by Alfredo Ricci - who managed to get a race in today despite the wind shifts, the full schedule of races for the Maxi Yacht Capri Trophy was completed.

This final competition concluded the first act of the MYCT and was rounded off with the prize-giving ceremony for the Capri races. The overall winner after the four races held was the Mylius 18E35 Fra' Diavolo, steered to victory by Vincenzo Addessi and his hard working crew. Among the awards presented were those for the winners in the Performance and Classic classes, the International Maxi Association trophy for the top-placed IMA member (Lorina 1895, owned by Jean Pierre Barjon) and the best placed maxi yacht in the two classes. The winner of the Rolex Trophy, however, will be revealed only when the results of the week's races are combined with those of this weekend’s Regata dei Tre Golfi, with the prize awarded during Monday's ceremony.

“It is so rewarding to have managed to organise these races in Capri' commented the President of the Yacht Club Capri Achille D’Avanzo, "the weather helped us out on the water, but back on shore the great accomplishment was achieving the status of a Covid-free island for Capri, thanks to the health protocol implemented by the highly experienced consultant Ciro Cannelonga, which enabled us to run the entire event safely.”
After four days of racing, at the conclusion of the first act of the Rolex Capri Sailing Week, the final ranking in the two classes is as follows:

Performance:
Fra’ Diavolo – Vincenzo Addessi – Yacht Club Gaeta
Lorina 1895 – Jean Pierre Barjon – Yacht Club de France
Cippa Lippa X – Guido Paolo Gamucci – Yacht Club Punta Ala

Classic:
Shirlaf – Giuseppe Puttini – C.N. Marina di Alimuri
Blue Oyster – Luca Scoppa – Reale Yacht Club Canottieri Savoia
Stella Maris – Matteo Fossati – Yacht Club Parma
From tomorrow the Rolex Capri Sailing Week shifts its focus to Naples and the Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia, where, at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, 15 May, (7 p.m. start for the fleet competing in the ORC European Championship) the Regata dei Tre Golfi will get underway. The celebrated and captivating offshore race will set off, for the first time in its long history, as dusk falls.
