Rockwool Racing scores first SailGP event win in Abu Dhabi domination
Rockwool Racing secured its first ever event win in SailGP in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, leading the fleet by 15-points after 6 races.
The Danish boat went into Race Day 2 in good shape after a 37-point haul on Saturday all but secured the event crown with just a pair of races to go.
A 12th placed finish in the first race of the day set Denmark’s nerves on edge, but a dominating final race saw the boat – led by Nicolai Sehested – storm the start and finish in second, taking the victory.
“I’m delighted, and it’s so important for our team to take an event win after an up and down season,” explained Sehested.
“It’s probably been one of the toughest years for us since we started the project back in 2020, so to close it on a high is big for the team and for Rockwool Racing – and we can’t wait to take this momentum into the 2026 season.”
Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team took the 2025 Championship in a three-boat shootout with Black Foils SailGP Team and BONDS Flying Roos SailGP Team.
Leaving just three points on the table on Saturday, Rockwool Racing secured one of the most dominant point returns for a single team in SailGP history, in tricky and light conditions.
“We’ve had a lot of crew changes through the season – from management, to coaches and athletes – and a few big ones just before this event, so for the team to bounce back and come out so strong is a real testament to what we are building here,” added Sehested.
On Thursday, Rockwool Racing announced that it had renewed its sponsorship of the Danish SailGP Team until 2032 – ensuring there will be a Danish-flagged SailGP team on the startline for a further seven years.
The 2026 SailGP season begins in Perth, Australia in January 2026.
