Hull turning of the tenth Bestevaer 53: Grey Shark takes shape
KM Yachtbuilders has reached an important milestone in the construction of the latest Bestevaer 53. With the owner and his family present, the aluminium hull of Grey Shark was turned upright. A special moment for everyone involved in the build.
Grey Shark is the tenth Bestevaer 53 in this series of aluminium explorer sailing yachts. The design is based on Tethys, the Bestevaer 53 built for Belgian television presenter and adventurer Tom Waes.
"Turning a hull is always an important moment in the build. With Grey Shark, it is particularly special, as this is the tenth Bestevaer 53 we are building. It shows the strength of the design and the trust our clients place in it. Having the owner and his family here to witness this milestone made it even more meaningful," says Oebele Woudstra, sales manager at KM Yachtbuilders.
With its aluminium hull, robust design and practical layout, the Bestevaer 53 is built for owners who want to explore the world by sail. The yacht combines the seaworthiness and distinctive character of the Bestevaer range with safety, comfort and ease of handling, making it well suited for long-distance cruising.
An important step in the build
The aluminium hull is built upside down, allowing our craftsmen to work efficiently and accurately on the structure. Once completed, the hull is carefully turned upright, after which the deck can be installed. This is an important step in the construction process, as the yacht starts to take on its final shape.
For the owner and his family, it was the first time seeing Grey Shark upright, with her lines and proportions clearly visible. The hull turning marks the start of the next phase of construction, during which the KM Yachtbuilders team will continue working towards completion.
Tenth Bestevaer 53
With Grey Shark, KM Yachtbuilders is building its tenth Bestevaer 53. While each yacht is based on the same proven design, every Bestevaer is customised to suit the sailing plans and preferences of her owner.
Over the coming months, work on Grey Shark will continue at the KM Yachtbuilders yard in Makkum, bringing her another step closer to her first miles at sea.
