Azzurra won't race as Mistral winds shut down Audi Sailing Week

Porto Cervo, September 24, 2019

No races today in Porto Cervo because strong Mistral winds have put a damper on day one of the Audi 52 Super Series Sailing Week.

Mistral winds at an average of over 25 knots with gusts up to 40 and building meant that today’s two windward leeward races were abandoned at the Audi 52 Super Series Sailing Week.

Azzurra’s navigator Bruno Zirilli, had these words: “Too bad that we didn’t race today, but it was the right call. The wind is really strong and very gusty, it doesn’t make sense to sail and take risks on day one. Tomorrow’s forecast calls for mistral winds tomorrow at 15 to 25 knots. If that’s what we get then we can probably recover at least one of today’s races.”

The first warning signal has been moved up an hour tomorrow to 11:00 AM so that the fleet can get three windward leeward races instead of the planned coastal race if conditions allow it.
