It was Mistral again today. After blowing at 40 knots earlier in the day, the wind died down a bit but was still too strong for going out to race and the 52 fleet stayed at the docks in front of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. After going out to check the conditions and after carefully evaluating the day’s forecast, the 52 Super Series’ PRO Maria Torrijo said: “The forecast was too optimistic. I don’t know why, but the wind hasn’t died down like we expected.

The average was about 27 knots but a bigger problem are the gusts at 32 knots and more. Even though this Class doesn’t have a wind speed limit and I can decide at my discretion after checking the wind and the sea state, together with the Race Committee we have decided that it’s better to wait for tomorrow when conditions are forecast to be perfect and we will be able to get three races in.”

So the scoreboard remains the same with Azzurra in second place just one point behind Sled. There are no less than 4 teams tied for points for third place and these are: Bronenosec, Alegre, Quantum and Phoenix.

Tomorrow racing will begin at 11:00 AM. The forecast calls for light Mistral winds at 12 to 18 knots.

Racing will resume tomorrow at noon CEST with windward leeward races that can be followed live with commentary in English on the App and on the websites www.52superseries.com and www.azzurra.it. The entire event will be covered on Virtual Eye. Updates in real time will be on Azzurra’s Facebook page and the best photos will be on Instagram at:https://www.instagram.com/azzurrasailing/
