This Tuesday morning, shortly before 04:00 GMT, Charles Caudrelier contacted his shore team to alert them to the damage on the port foil of the Maxi Edmond de Rothschild. This major incident occurred as the skipper of Gitana Team was sailing downwind, some 400 miles north of the Azores, in heavy 3m seas and 20/25 knots of N’ly wind. At the time, the latest Gitana was lying in 4th place in the Ultim category of the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe fleet.

The skipper is fine and the situation is under control.

With the support of his shore team, Charles Caudrelier is currently performing the necessary operations to make the damaged foil secure whilst carrying out more extensive investigations aboard to determine the extent of the damage. Meantime, his routing unit is studying the various options possible.
