Luna Rossa at the Genova Science Festival as a special guest
Luna Rossa was a special guest at the Festival della Scienza, one of the most important scientific conferences in Europe. The theme of the event was "Maps for Success - the boat, tactics and organization that won the Prada Cup"
The round table was held in the striking set of the Palazzo della Borsa in Genova, with main focus on the success reached by the team in the most recent edition of the America's Cup. The team’s victory was analyzed in its three fundamental scientific aspects: the innovative hull and foil technology, the sailing strategy at sea and the logistics power supporting the results.
Alessandro Franceschetti, Head of Structural Engineering, revealed the inner workings of the AC75 and its management; Michele Cannoni, Boat Captain, led the public through a virtual tour “on board”, allowing spectators to participate in the sailing strategies that led to the victory of the Prada Cup. Behind the boat aired on the televisions worldwide lies a meticulous organization that has made this adventure possible: here Giulio Giovanella, Logistic Manager, described the complex organizational machine that drives Luna Rossa and an America’s Cup campaign.
"The success of Luna Rossa relies on years of scientific studies, simulator tests, organization, models and more tests, training in the gym and at sea ... the smiles and tears of an amazing Italian adventure that has given our country pride and a national identity. Luna Rossa is not just one of the many Italian boats to have been successful at a world level: it represents a reality we all identified with, as we suffered and rejoiced through its amazing performances", commented the conductor of the event Prof. Eugenio Fazio –Director of the Smart & Neuro Photonics Laboratory of the Science of Engineering Sciences Department at the Sapienza University of Rome and Vice President of ANFEA - National Physics & Applications Association.
