Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli and The Woolmark Company together again
The Woolmark Company, the global authority on Merino wool, is once again technical partner of the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team for the 37th America's Cup.
For the 2024 edition of the America's Cup, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli will once again wear high-tech garments made of Merino wool, thanks to the renewal of the partnership with The Woolmark Company that returns as technical partner to support the Italian team in its challenge for the 37th America's Cup.
With its breathability, water resistance, elasticity and thermoregulation properties, Merino wool regulates body temperature both in winter and summer and is the ideal fabric for the uniforms of the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli sailors. These comfortable and lightweight garments allow the crew to make the most of their potential, while staying focused on performance.
Choosing Merino wool also means helping the environment, as it is a 100% natural fibre, recyclable and with a very low environmental impact.
For all these reasons, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli and The Woolmark Company have decided not only to renew the partnership, but also to expand the supply of Merino wool garments by adding to the official sailing team uniforms used in the past edition. Accompanying the original sailing uniforms, additional high-performance technical garments have been specifically designed for athletic preparation, with particular attention to cycling, running and gym-based training.
«I am very pleased that The Woolmark Company has decided to renew the technical partnership that will accompany us in our challenge for the 37th America's Cup» said Max Sirena, skipper and Team Director of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli. «For a sports team of our standing, wearing high quality technical clothing also means improving competitive performance. After testing the garments in a wide range of conditions during the last edition of the America's Cup, we discovered the unique properties of Merino wool in terms of elasticity, breathability, comfort, insulation and water resistance. Having had an excellent experience with these outfits, we took the opportunity to develop technical training uniforms together, exploiting the characteristics of this natural fibre, which, moreover, is perfectly in line with our lifestyle and the sustainability policy pursued by Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli.»
«The renewal of this partnership underlines the affinity of two brands working together to create a technical uniform for the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli sailing crew,» said John Roberts, Managing Director of The Woolmark Company. «A 100% natural fibre that is renewable, biodegradable and recyclable, Merino wool offers a natural solution with a reduced environmental impact that can improve performance, thus helping the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team to achieve their goals also in terms of sustainability.»
During Milan Fashion Week, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli and The Woolmark Company presented the new technical training uniforms to the press and public. The event was attended by Lorenzo Bertelli, Marketing Director and Head of Corporate Social Responsibility of Prada Group and Max Sirena, Team Director and Skipper of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli as well as several crew members.
