The 12thedition of the Yacht Racing Forum is just ended in Bilbao, where the PROtect Tapes’ CEO, Pietro Parmeggiani, took part with a speech in front of 365 delegates.

Almost all of those present already knew and appreciated the products of the Italian company, PROtect tapes was in fact supplier of the Boatyard in the last two editions of the Volvo Ocean Race, currently is supplier of the America's Cup teams, SailGP, 52 Super Series, the big trimarans class Ultime, the best skippers of the Vendée Globe, many Olympic teams.

However, few of the delegates present in Bilbao were familiar with the history of PROtect tapes, born almost casually aboard a Swan 70 talking about the chafe problems with a very experienced sailor. The search for a solution was immediately accepted as a challenge by Parmeggiani, a passionate sailor for his childhood and expert in polymers and adhesives. From that conversation CHAFE and the MASK tape were born, this one well known by the riggers with the nice nickname "millionaire tape". The reason? Simple: compared to the common black ribbon for electricians it costs much more, but actually its diffusion, from the dinghies to the superyachts, indicates how much a relatively greater cost allows much more savings, preventing the problems of the chafe between the sheets and other parts of the equipment or the boat herself.

"In PROtect tapes we believe we are better together," says Parmeggiani. “We work with designers, material scientists, industry experts and future thinkers from around the world to bring new ideas and technologies to light and inspire innovation. Our goal is to create enthusiasm, conversation and new ideas for the future ".

"While working to achieve our 2025 sustainability goals, we are thinking big and reaching higher, applying our collaborative spirit, passion for innovation and technical expertise to transform our operations, our products, our industry and, ultimately, our world ".

The PROtect tapes are not just a successful business story, but the CEO's corporate philosophy is transformed into a product: the pleasure of continuous and constant innovation, to make life easier for everyone: sailors, boats and also for the environment.

The R&D department has been lately focused particularly on the sustainability: last year it was launched BOW#, a new range of stickers for bow number and advertising made of bioplastic films that use renewable resources to reduce environmental impact. Now, PROtect tapes have finally completed the SPK (Safe Packing Kite) project, an innovative system to hoist gennaker and spinnaker much safer and to respect the environment. In designing the product, special attention has been devoted to the material and the choice went to highly sustainable materials. Its launch at the recent METS in Amsterdam was an unprecedented success in the history of PROtect tapes.

Always in terms of sustainability and circular economy, the company also offers new services related to its products. The GIVE BACK recycling program allows users to recycle CHAFE, MASK and INTERIOR products for free, giving them a credit. The GIVE BACK recycling program prevents the used product from being landfilled and saves precious materials used in the creation of new products. So PROtect tapes can take less from the planet and less in the oceans.
