October 29, 2019 - The tenth edition of the Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image Award is underway. The event is once again very popular, both with sailing enthusiasts, yacht racing photographers and the general public.

A staggering 133 professional photographers representing 29 nations submitted their best photograph this year. A week ago, the international jury, composed of respected personalities from the world of sailing photography selected the 80 best images of the year, which are now available on the event's website.

"The publication of the best images is always an exciting moment, especially for young photographers who manage to make it through the initial selection for the first time in their career, and for photographers from emerging countries", says Bernard Schopfer, the organizer of the Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image award. "It is also a real heartbreak for those whose photos are not retained. Luckily, most of them accept the jury's decision with dignity and show great sportsmanship."

Initiated in 2010, the Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image award is the leading international photo competition dedicated to the sport of sailing. Its objective is to give the opportunity to sailing photographers from all over the world to share their passion with the public. It is also an efficient springboard for young photographers willing to make it in this difficult professional environment, and for photographers from countries that are new in the world of sailing. " We are particularly proud to have succeeded in attracting new and young photographers, as well as photographers from Afghanistan, China, Chile, India or Uruguay", says Schopfer. "This has only been possible thanks to our team’s hard work and dedication, and I am grateful to them."

Votes by the public are open until November 15 on the event website: https://www.yachtracingimage.com The top 20 images selected by the international jury will be printed and displayed at the Yacht Racing Forum in Bilbao on November 25-26. The winning photographers will be celebrated on this occasion, in front of the sports’ leading personalities from all over the world.
