Italy is in the top 10 of the countries in the world with the higher number of shipyards and refit companies; second only to the US and ahead of countries such as Turkey, Spain and France. These are some of the data presented at The Superyacht Forum by Martin H. Redmayne of The Superyacht Group, international media partner.

The Forum provides an in-depth analysis on the state of the market as part of the Yare (Yachitng Aftersales & Refit Experience) programme organized by Navigo, network of innovation and development in the yachting sector.

In the opening speech, Vincenzo Poerio, president of Yare, underlined the results of the nautical industry recently provided in by Confindustria Nautica: a turnover of almost 6 billion euros last year and exports for approximately 3 billion euros, the highest ever.

“It is certainly a golden moment that must drive us to think ahead and face the new global challenges, including the ecological transition. - explained Vincenzo Poerio -. Yare is the ideal occasion to address these issues thanks to the presence of important companies operating globally in the superyacht segment and pursuing ways to improve their products and services.  At Yare, The Passarelle Pitch gives the chance to the companies to present projects and innovations and get visibility and feedbacks by the entire audience. The same is true for the RINA Captains’ Awards highlighting the professionalism and expertize of the captains. Vision, strategy, training, networking are the key to face future challenges in our sector.”

The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the possible repercussions on yachting was also addressed during the forum. According to Navigo, the percentage of Russian superyacht buyers is around 19% of the market, which should not have a big impact on the global industry.

According to Pietro Angelini, general manager of Navigo “it is necessary to consider that it takes about two years construction time before delivering a yachts over 40 or 60 meters to the owner. “The effects on the market will depend on the duration of the war which, by the way, we all hope is going to end as soon as possible”.

Finally, the numbers on the world fleet with forecasts for 2020/2030: in the range 30 - 45m, a + 1,209 units is expected in the decade 2020/2030; between 45 and 60m, an increase of 290 yachts. For fleet in the 60 – 90 range no substantial changes are expected: 151 yachts in the period 2011/2020 and 149 will be the ones between 2020/2030; for yachts over 90m they expect to go from 43 to 62 mega yachts. Totally, the difference will be 92 extra units.
