Building of the new "One Hundred Feet" designed by Marino Alfani is started

The Brazilian shipyard Sedna Yachts has officially begun the production work on the new “One Hundred Feet”, a project signed by Marino Alfani Design. This custom yacht with streamlined contours has been created from the outset with two different layouts, so that it meets the needs of both European owners on one hand and Brazilian customers on the other. 100 feet in length for maximum comfort and conviviality.

“All my designs, despite their diversity, share a few standout features,” commented the young Bergamo-based designer Marino Alfani, owner of the firm set up in 2007 that bears his name. And that’s certainly the case of the One Hundred Feet created for the San Paolo-based Sedna shipyard, which will be presented in summer 2020. Like many of Alfani’s other projects, it has the designer’s signature exterior lines: clean, well-defined and streamlined.

The first sketch for this project dates back to 2017. Created as a sporty boat, it underwent various changes over the months, inspired by a different concept of what it means to go to sea, and now the shipyard has announced the start of production. The owner of the first unit, sold two years ago, wanted a more livable yacht on which recreation, pure and simple, is more important than sportiness. For this reason, the yacht has been partially redesigned, with the addition of a deck and the creation of big, welcoming outdoor spaces for socialising.

Brazil is a very important market for the international yachting industry, so much so that many important shipards have opened production sites in the country. Marino Alfani has been working with various local companies for many years, but this One Hundred Feet is ready to win over owners with European tastes too, and that’s why two different layouts are offered.

The first unit, with the layout designed for Brazilian owners, stands out for the continuity between the living area, the kitchen and the cockpit, giving it a more recreational feel. Hospitality and sharing are apparently the keywords for the day area. The bow section of the Main Deck is occupied by the spacious, light-filled, full-beam owner’s cabin, while the guest night area on the Lower Deck consists of three big double staterooms and three cabins with twin beds.

The second version of the layout, created for the European market, has a more traditional organisation of the day area, with better separation between dining, living and cooking spaces.

The decor of this first unit stands out for its great originality: the spacious, welcoming and refined settings abound in wood, juxtaposed in perfect harmony with glossy lacquered surfaces and leather and steel accents, all fine materials that are hallmarks of Marino Alfani’s designs.

The next units (the sales of the second and third units are currently being negotiated) can be decorated according to the owner’s wishes, from more contemporary and innovative styles to those more suited to classical tastes.

This One Hundred Feet is only one of the many projects Alfani has underway. In both his work and his life, Alfani prefers quality over quantity: “I’d like my designs to be appreciated by “quality” owners who are familiar with the sea and know how to recognise the value of a boat without stopping at appearances, because what counts is often hidden away. All this can’t be seen as an obsolete concept, but as something that affects the purity of the idea of a boat and its forms, content and quality”.
